Strands Recommender is an independent business unit of Strands Labs, Inc., an industry leader in the personalization space. Founded by Dr. Francisco Martin in early 2003, Strands today has over six years of relevant industry experience, over 100 employees and $55M in total funding from Debaque, Sequel R&D, Dalbergia and BBVA. Strands Recommender is poised to continue explosive growth and solidify itself in both the eCommerce and Social Media spaces.

Industry Leadership:

Strands has been actively involved in the recommendation industry since its foundation. In 2006, Strands organized the first industry event, Recommenders06, getting together the brightest minds in academia and industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities of recommendation technologies. Speakers included Netflix, Yahoo, Ask.com, Strands, and others.

Both in 2007 and 2008, Strands led the Industry Program of the 1st and 2nd ACM Conference on Recommender Systems, and built a speaker roster that included industry leaders such as Google, Unilever, eBay, Yahoo, Ask.com, BT, Last.fm, Digg, Strands and others.

In 2008, Strands organized the $100k Call for Recommender Start-ups, looking for the best early stage recommender start-ups.

In 2009, Strands co-organized Recked, a night of recommendation technologies, an informal event for engineers interested in learning how to build a simple recommender.
